Year 6 visit Rock UK

Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed an action-packed few days at Rock UK. The following is an account of their time there written by our Head Girl and Head Boy.

As part of our trip to Rock UK Year 6 enjoyed a fun day at Wicksteed park. It was a lovely sunny day and when we arrived at the park we split into small groups to go round. We all went to ‘The Arena’ and our group went on the roller coaster first. Nelly and I watched the men repair a cart which we then went in, so we were extra terrified. We then went on the ’Log Flume’. Tillie was at the back of the log so when we went down in the water she got soaked! Just before lunch we went on the big ‘Pirate Ship’. Here the whole class sat in two rows facing each other. Melvina ended up screaming and Rosie yelled for her life! Overall it was a really great day out at Wicksteed.

On Wednesday 16th June 2010 Year 6 went to Rock UK for a residential stay there and to do fun activities there. It was a great trip which everyone enjoyed and I myself will remember it for years to come. After we had half a day at Wicksteed we set off for Rock UK where we had out first activity there. First we did some teamwork skills, say for example ‘mine field’ where one team had to get over a mine covered track and we had to find the correct path to the other side. Afterwards we jogged along a path to a massive maze in which we had to navigate our way around to find pieces of bricks which made helpful phrases such as “we must not give up when it gets hard”.

Then we set off to make our rooms and check if it was the 5star accommodation that we were used to. The next morning we went to the dining hall which had a fabulous breakfast of hot croissants and cereal. Today was out wet day and we had planned to get soaked to the bone. After breakfast we went to do canoeing where we paddled (having great fun up and down the river) and trying to catch and collect different objects from the river. When we all came out of the river we were drenched from head to toe. Then we set off back to our rooms for lunch. The meal was great and afterwards we went down to the pitch where we played volleyball. Then after a long wait around we went to do raft building. We designed an amazing raft which was completely versatile to the treacherous conditions of the river. Then after we had the rafts safely on the banks we finished up on having to drown a canoe. Afterwards we got ready for a long campfire with jokes and songs. The next day we had breakfast then did our final activity called ‘high ropes’ where we swung like chimpanzees on ‘The leap of faith’. Unfortunately no one had faith and we all kept falling off and being wrenched down on with thick long ropes. After lunch it was the long trek back home. I dare say that everyone slept well. Rock UK was great trip which we all enjoyed immensely.
