Spencer enjoys a day at Lords Cricket Ground

Our Head Boy, Spencer Regan-Smith, had the experience of a lifetime as one of only six boys from all over the country to spend an afternoon having a cricket coaching session with England Test Captain, Alistair Cook.

The afternoon was sponsored by the Clydesdale Bank, who approached the school to find a representative that would enjoy this experience. Spencer was lucky to receive this opportunity and had a great time. The day was packed with the following activities: a net practice with the England Captain; a tour around the ‘home’ of Cricket, including a visit to the world famous media centre that has been awarded many architectural prizes; the famous committee room where the laws of cricket were devised and monitored; the long-room where the members of the MCC sit during test matches and, as a highlight, the England changing rooms. Alistair Cook pointed out where the current England test team sat and where his name has been added twice to the list of all the great England players that have achieved 100 runs in an England test match. Following a visit to the visitors’ changing room, the tour was completed with a visit to the museum where the original tiny urn containing the ashes is kept. The evening was rounded off with a slap-up meal in the Tavern Restaurant where the now very hungry future cricketers sat and chatted to Alistair about his career.  It was a terrific day and thanks must go to the Clydesdale Bank for their generous sponsorship and, of course, Alistair Cook, who was simply brilliant with all the young enthusiasts.
