World Book Day
The theme of our World Book Day next week is 'Farms'
This came about through our librarian, Mrs Street , who has investigated author Michael Morpurgo’s charity ‘Farms for city children’ www.farmsforcitychildren.org
On World Book Day, Thursday 4 March, the children (and staff!) have been invited to dress up with a farm theme – farmers, farm animals or scarecrows, and to bring in £1 donation for the charity, in our usual non-uniform fashion.
As well as the judging of the farm designs, each year group will be working on farm-themed book-based activities in the morning, using anything from ‘Farmer Duck’ and ‘Oliver’s vegetables’ in the Pre-prep through to Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Mudpuddle Farm’ series and Lucy Daniels ‘Goose on the Loose’ series further up the school, along with some non-fiction books. In the afternoon, the whole school will meet up in their house groups to build a 3-D version of one of the farm design, using a variety of construction and modelling materials, with each family in the house being responsible for a different section or area of the farm. This will bring in a host of additional learning experiences and opportunities across the curriculum, from team building and cooperation skills to D.T. and Geography, including photographing the results for different viewpoints.
We hope to post some photographs of the event in due course.
