The Main School

On entering the main school, each child is placed in a form which normally has the same class teacher for the whole year. That teacher is responsible for day-to-day pastoral care as well as the academic progress of the children.

Classes are small, and children in the Reception class and Years 1 & 2 have the benefit of a teaching assistant in addition to the class teacher, enabling each child to receive individual help and attention.

Parents' Evenings are held each term. In October, immediately before half term, a 'settling-in' evening is held so parents may meet with staff to discuss how their child is settling into their new class. There is close contact between form teachers, subject staff and parents.

Reports are issued each term, just before our Parents' Evenings, although members of staff are available at other times for informal consultations. Close attention is paid to the standard of achievement and effort of each child.

Progress, both academic and social is carefully monitored by means of on-going assessment. Common Entrance and Key Stage 2 tests are the targets for pupils in Year 6 with an excellent degree of success.

When the time comes to consider a child's secondary schooling, the Headmaster is always happy to give practical advice, based on his and the staff's observations of the individual child and on the personal contacts with senior schools built up over the years.

School Meals
Lunch time is an important part of the day. Children are encouraged to try out new tastes along with more traditional flavours and enjoy a two-course lunch, prepared on the premises by our own catering team. Our aim is to provide an enjoyable and nutritious meal with a choice of main course followed by a home-made pudding or fresh fruit. Vegetarians and special diets are catered for.
