1950 - 2010 Diaond Jubilee Celebrations

History

Fairstead House was founded in 1950 by Rosamonde Taylor and following her retirement in 1978, ownership of the school passed to a charitable trust. A co-educational independent day school for children aged 3-11, Fairstead House School is situated close to the centre of historic Newmarket, headquarters of the ‘Sport of Kings’ and adjacent to the famous gallops in the attractive county of Suffolk.

The present Headmaster, Gareth Williams takes over the reins from three previous long serving Heads whose valued contributions have been honoured recently with the school houses named after them.

Our Diamond Jubilee and future plans

Now in its 61st year, Fairstead House has provided a wonderful independent education for three generations of pupils. The school has always adhered to the firm principles set down by its founder Rosamonde Taylor, giving a broad, sound education within a thriving, ‘family’ environment where individuals are recognized and developed in a happy and positive fashion. Sadly, Mrs. Taylor has now passed away, but this focus and dedication continues unaltered.

Last year, our Diamond Jubilee afforded a great opportunity to pursue our core values in three ways:-

To Celebrate  - with special events over the academic year.
To Raise Funds - for the development of the school infrastructure in order to provide enhanced facilities for current and future pupils.
To Bring Together - pupils and parents past and present, teachers and friends of the school, to develop an ongoing legacy.

A number of projects are planned that will provide more classroom space, enhance the external aspect of the school and increase the playground area. Plans have been carefully drawn up with the aim of turning non-academic space into academic space – and non-children space into children space.

There will be many opportunities for parents to develop closer relationships with Fairstead and for former pupils and parents to reconnect with the school.

We are in the process of setting up a 'Fairsteadian Society' with a dedicated 'Alumni' page on our website. The aim is to have it fully 'up and running' within the next academic year and we would like to hear from any ex-pupils and staff members who would like to join the society and/or are able to send us photos and news items, past and present, that we can publish on this page. Please contact us via the email address or telephone number below if you are interested in joining and re-connecting with the 'Fairstead family'.

We are delighted to welcome ex-pupils and parents back to Fairstead and do hope that you will be able to visit us at some point over the coming year. If you are unable to visit you may like to consider making a donation to help turn our vision into reality. In this case, please contact Carolyn Joyner, Head’s P.A., on 01638-662318, email secretary@fairsteadhouse.co.uk
