A Message From Nick Holdsworth, Chair of the Governors
My association with Fairstead House School goes back to September 2001, when my wife Judy and I decided it would be the right educational choice for our three daughters.
On our first visit, we were impressed by the warm, enthusiastic welcome we received and the wonderful family ethos of the school, which means in practice that all members of a child’s family can feel part of the educational experience.
Although our children have now departed for senior schools, I remain very closely involved with this very special school by serving on the Board of Governors.
Perhaps the most obvious example of parents working with the school to improve our facilities is through our hugely supportive Parents’ Association. We are extremely grateful for all their hard work and enthusiasm, and especially for the many well-organised events that they put on throughout the year.
Just like families, Fairstead House is also part of the wider community and being a charitable trust, our community links are very important to us. The Christmas Charity Concert staged each year is a joint venture between the Racing Welfare charity and the school, and has been a particular highlight of the autumn term with members of the School Choir playing their part. We are also closely involved with the local ‘Open Door’ and our Harvest Festival services every year provide them with a multitude of food donations for their charity, thanks to the generosity of our parents.
The transformation of the Sports Field at Exning has made an enormous difference to our sports and means that we can now host fixtures and provide a well-earned tea in the pavilion for the teams after the matches. As governors, we are always looking at more ways we may be able to share facilities for mutual benefit with other organisations. If parents have any ideas we would be very pleased to hear about them.
Fairstead children are happy and grow in confidence through being taught in a caring and secure environment. It is my aim as Chairman of Governors to preserve this ethos and ensure that the school is fully equipped to face future challenges.
