Fairstead House

An independent day school and nursery for boys and girls
from three months to eleven years

Dear Parents

Our sporting season finished with a triumphant win for our U11 boys cricket team against Orwell Park last week.  The boys batted first and scored 109-4 in twenty overs.  Orwell Park batted and chased well, with twenty runs needed in the last two overs.  Some superb bowling and fielding ensured our victory by two runs.  Well done, boys!

Sports’ Afternoon

After a scorching weekend, we were blessed with cooler weather for our Sports’ Afternoon on Monday.  It was lovely to see so many of you there, cheering on your children in their races.  Incredibly, Buckenham and Taylor scored exactly the same number of points – the first time that there has ever been a dead heat!  It was wonderful to see such competitive spirit and to watch the children supporting and congratulating their friends.

Music & Drama Concert

I am sure that those of you who joined us for Tuesday’s concert thought it a splendid occasion!  This was the first time that we had combined drama pieces with musical performances and it was a great success.  Mr Woolf was only sorry that he was unable to be there but was thrilled to hear how well his pupils performed.

Forest School

Also on Tuesday, Reception had their last visit to Forest School.  They have thoroughly enjoyed their weekly visits and, once again, huge thanks to the Tiilbrook family for making this possible.  The children have benefitted greatly taking their learning outside and it has been amazing seeing how their collaborative skills have improved over the year.

Wimbledon

On Wednesday, many of Year 6 had an exciting and memorable trip to Wimbledon.  The children spent most of the day on Court 2 but also explored the practice courts and Murray Mound. Stan Wawrinka v Reilly Opelka was voted the favourite match of the day.  Some of the children were lucky enough to have their tennis balls signed!  A long day but one never to be forgotten.

Tennis Tournament

Years 5 and 6 took part in a tennis tournament following on from their curriculum tennis lessons.  There were four groups and all played each other.  The winners from each group were Ava, Abisha, Harry and Madoc  Well done, all!

Year 5 Trip to High Lodge

To celebrate the end of a wonderful year, Year 5 went with Ms Meyer and Miss Hodgkinson, their class teacher next year, to High Lodge in Thetford Forest.  The children honed their team building skills and created dens in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.  Much fun was had by all!

Trip to Old Hunstanton

Yesterday, all children in Years 1-6 went on the annual outing to Old Hunstanton.  The children were blessed with perfect weather for the seaside.  Sandcastles were made, picnics enjoyed and beach games were played.  The oldest children even enjoyed a paddle in the sea!  A wonderful end to the year for the children.

Nursery Sports’ Afternoon

Whilst children in Years 1 – 6 were enjoying themselves at Old Hunstanton, all the Nursery children welcomed parents, grandparents and friends to a fun afternoon ‘at the races’!  It was lovely to see so many of you there and to watch the youngest members of Fairstead House entering into the spirit of Sports Day.  Our Reception children thoroughly enjoyed cheering everyone on and added to the atmosphere of the occasion – even ‘Fairstead Fred’ enjoyed the day!

Change to School Uniform

Please find here our complete School Uniform for next year.  I am very excited to announce that we are in the process of designing a new school blazer, which will be available for September 2020.  Please be assured, however, that the current blazer may still be worn until September 2022.  When we have more information and samples of possible designs, these will be shared with you and we will welcome your input into the final design choice.

We are also planning to create a new logo for the school and we look forward to sharing design ideas with you soon.

Change to Timings of School Days

Following a great deal of discussion amongst the staff of our younger children, we have decided that the school day will finish at 4.00pm for all children.  We feel that this will be a far more relaxing end of the day and will allow the children to stay in their classroom until home time.

Contact Details and Emergency Contacts

A reminder to all parents to please ensure that all our contact details which we hold for you (including your address and emergency contact numbers) are correct and up to date.  Please note that we are legally obliged to have a minimum of two emergency contact details for each child.

School Calendars

In response to parental feedback and as part of our commitment to sustainability, we will no longer be issuing a termly paper calendar.  Instead, all school events, term dates and staff contact details may be found on the school website or from the School Office.

Holiday Club Bookings

A reminder that our Holiday Club is now open from Mondays to Fridays, from 8.00am to 6.00pm.  Please find a booking form here or contact Holiday Club directly on 07590 864460.

As I write, school is a hive of activity and excitement as the children are preparing for the End of Year Service and Prize-giving at St Mary’s Church.

With my best wishes for a lovely summer break with your children,

Lynda Brereton
