As we end our second week of Fairstead From Home, we have been delighted to see how successful the Zoom lessons and face-to-face learning has been received by pupils and by you. This week, Year 6 have been trialling Google Classroom. We have listened carefully to the children’s feedback and look forward to rolling it out to the rest of Key Stage 2 next week.
A special highlight of our Fridays for Mr Radford and me is when we deliver the home learning packs to Reception children. It is always a joy to see the children’s eager faces and their evident enthusiasm for their learning. This afternoon, I was particularly delighted to see Toby showing us his one his favourite birthday presents received today – his (toy) chainsaw!
This week, the children have enjoyed reading the story of ‘The Pig in the Pond’ (continuing their topic of water). They enjoyed writing to the Pig to tell her other ways to keep cool other than just jumping in a pond! She was so happy to hear their ideas, she sent them ice lolly moulds so they could make their own ice lollies!
There are also some amazing ‘Shape Detectives’ in Reception. The children have hunted for 2D and 3D shapes and then made some super creations. As part of their outdoor learning, the children have also enjoyed making 2D shapes using natural resources and talking about their properties.
Lots of super ‘Busy Bees’ at home and lots of challenges complete! Go, Team Reception!
Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed following instructions to make their own cupcakes and have also made some delightful ‘animal art’ from fruit and vegetables.
Year 2 have embraced all areas of the curriculum this week. They certainly look as though they are relishing their home learning challenges!
In Years 3 and 4, children have been exploring Japanese art, which links with their topic of Japan.
Here is Sophie’s wonderful collage of Hokusai’s ‘Mount Fuji from the Tama River’.
Happy Birthday to Captain Tom
A number of children have created delightful birthday messages to wish Captain Tom a happy birthday. We are sure that he enjoyed them!
Thank you to our NHS
I was thrilled to see familiar Fairstead faces clapping outside at 8.00pm last night in appreciation of all the NHS staff, who work so hard to keep us safe in these difficult times.
Speech & Drama Lessons – September 2020
‘I would just like you to know that online lessons are continuing via zoom very successfully and this will continue until further notice. However, if you would like your children to have individual lessons from September, then please book with me “as early as possible” in order to secure a place. Obviously all the current Year 6 children will be leaving so places are available now for September. Lessons are £16 per session and invoices are sent out once per term.
I do know that we all have more important things to deal with right now but the arts (be it drama or music or dance) are so important to children’s learning and welfare.
Please do feel free to contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org’
Jonathan Woolf, Teacher of Speech & Drama
Once again, may I re-iterate how much we appreciate your feedback regarding our online learning provision. We are continually striving to enhance and improve ‘Fairstead From Home’ until we are allowed to open our doors to the children once more.
With my best wishes,
